Offshore Field Development Data Research Assistant - Houston

ODS-Petrodata is seeking a Data Research Assistant/ Trainee Reporter to join our Field Development team in Houston. The emphasis of this role will be on tracking activity in the offshore construction vessel market. In this position you will have frequent contact with external sources for information retrieval and verification. The successful candidate will possess a university degree or relevant work experience, and be self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision. The position requires attention to detail, the ability to write to a high standard and strong computer skills, including database and spreadsheet use.

Software Engineer (Web Development) - Aberdeen

ODS-Petrodata is the leading provider of offshore market news, data, and research and consulting services to the oil and gas industry with offices in Aberdeen, Houston, Oslo, Singapore and Dubai.  Due to further expansion of our product base, the IT Team in Aberdeen has an immediate opening for a Software Engineer.  This position reports to the Vice President - IT.

You will play a key role in developing and maintaining the Company's products, systems and applications. This role will focus on, but is not limited to, development of database-driven websites.

The focus of the role is system design and development, although some input to specification and testing may be required.

You will be degree-qualified in computing or an allied discipline, ideally with experience of software development in a professional environment.  This role will require strong programming skills.

Key experience :

  • Advanced PHP programming
  • Advanced Web development (CSS, DHTML, JavaScript, XML)
  • Basic to intermediate SQL


You should possess good written and verbal communication skills, be enthusiastic and self-motivated, and have excellent attention to detail.  You should have the ability to work to deadlines and prioritise your workload.

You will play a key role in developing and maintaining the Company’s products, systems and applications.

The focus of the role will be database design and programming, although some database administration, documentation and testing may be required.

You will be degree qualified in computing or an allied discipline, with experience of database development in a professional environment.  Strong database programming skills are essential and will focus on:

  • Database design and implementation
  • Advanced SQL (including views, triggers, stored procedures etc.)
  • Experience of Microsoft SQL Server and/or PostgreSQL is required
  • Experience in 3GL development (Java, PHP) and/or database administration would also be an advantage but not essential.

You will play a key role in delivering onshore and offshore market analysis (such as offshore construction vessels, FPSOs, topsides, well services) primarily to leading oil and gas companies worldwide.

Your key responsibilities will include analysis of a wide range of market segments, which provide valuable input to operators’ sourcing and procurement strategies.  You will forecast pricing trends, demand, supply and growth areas; know and describe market segments’ structure and players; handle oil and gas companies’ requests for information and market insight; present papers at industry conferences and promote the Company’s market survey capability.  Experience of macroeconomic and/or corporate analysis and an awareness of financial markets would therefore be an advantage.  You will be expected to become an expert in your field.

You will have a Masters degree or equivalent in Business, Economics, Engineering or similar, preferably with an emphasis on data analysis and report writing within the financial sector or the oil and gas industry.  Alternatively, appropriate work experience in a similar discipline would be essential.

You should work well independently or in a team, possess excellent attention to detail and be able to work to deadlines.

You will play a key role in the European and Nordic regions, with specific targets for sales growth in these markets.

Your key responsibilities will include renewing existing business, targeting new market segments, pro-actively generating new business, managing the sales process from opportunity to fulfilment, developing a high level of understanding of your clients/prospects and how our products can help them achieve business growth.

You will have experience in a regional or international sales environment with a proven track record, preferably in the Oil & Gas Industry. Alternatively you will be familiar with the Oil & Gas sectors, and the companies/contacts that operate in this market.
